The history of mail and postage stamps of Laos, located in Southeast Asia, on the Indochina Peninsula, is conventionally divided into periods of colonial dependence on France until 1945, after the declaration of independence (1945-1960), civil war (1960-1975) and the Lao People's Republic. Democratic Republic since 1975. Laos has been a member of the Universal Postal Union since 1952.
