Lottery tickets
In Europe, the first lotteries began to appear in the 15th century, and in Russia only in the 18th century. The Dutch Renaissance painter Jan van Eyck is widely known. He is the author of 100 compositions on religious subjects. The painter died in 1441. And now, 25 years after his death, the artist’s widow held the first lottery draw known in Europe. This event was timed to coincide with the 25th anniversary of the death of the Flemish artist and took place on February 24, 1446.
This was a charity lottery, the proceeds from which were used to support low-income residents of the city of Bruges, where the lottery was held.
Nowadays, there are many famous lottery ticket collectors all over the world.
