They were characterized by the fact that they were not always made of paper: it could be aluminum foil, wood, silk; There are series of notgelds made of porcelain. First issued in July 1914 in denominations of 1, 2, and 2.5 marks. In 1923, a new type appeared - inflationary notgeld. During the period 1914-1924. approximately 100,000 notgeld (of various materials) were produced. Subsequently, such money was issued in Austria, France, Belgium and other European countries.
