Postage stamps have been issued in Spain since 1850. Spain has been a member of the Universal Postal Union since 1875. The first postage stamps of Spain were issued on January 1, 1850. They depicted Queen Isabella II. Inscriptions on the stamps: “Correos” (“Mail”); "Franco" ("Payment"). The name of the state was not indicated.
