Kennkarte был основным документом, удостоверяющим личность, использовавшимся в эпоху Третьего Рейха, впервые представленным в июле 1938 года. Обычно их получали в полицейском участке, и на них стояли штампы соответствующего выдавшего учреждения и должностного лица. Каждый гражданин Германии получал один и должен был предъявить его при встрече с должностными лицами.
