The first life insurance company in Russia was the Salamandra insurance company, founded in 1846. The Rossiya joint-stock company, which appeared a little later, already provided 3 types of life insurance.
Over time, it became possible to obtain protection against the risks of disability and death during working age, and pension insurance also appeared. By 1918, Russian insurance companies had taken leading positions in the world in the field of life insurance. During Soviet times, life insurance was carried out within the framework of the state monopoly on insurance.
