The Republic of Vanuatu at the beginning of the twentieth century was a colony of France and became independent in 1980. At that time, the Ministry of Finance carried out a reform and replaced the franc with “vatu” coins, the design of which was completed by 1983, since then the franc and the Australian dollar were not accepted for payment in the territory of the republic.
Since 1993, the Reserve Bank of Vanuatu has been issuing coins and banknotes. The new currency has a perfect appearance and good security features, it depicts landmarks, inscriptions in the native language and denominations on both sides.
