The official monetary unit of Uzbekistan is the Uzbek som. Since 2000, coins have been minted in denominations: 1, 5, 10, 50, 100 soums. Commemorative coins have been issued by the Central Bank since 1994, when, in honor of the third anniversary of the country's independence, coins were issued from precious metals (in denominations of 10, 50 and 100 soums), base metals (in denominations of 25, 50, 100, 500 soums), as well as base metals , covered with gold (in denominations of 1 and 10 soums).
Seven coins made of steel coated with nickel or copper-nickel alloy, dedicated to memorable anniversary events, were put into circulation.
