The Samoan currency, the tala, which was introduced into circulation in 1967, is equal to 100 sen. There are coins in circulation in denominations of 10, 20, 50 sene, 1, 2 tala. The obverse of the coins depicts a portrait of Tuiatua Tupua Tamasese Efi (the current head of state).
