The monetary unit of the Republic of Macedonia is the Macedonian denar. Introduced into circulation on April 26, 1992, at that moment it was equal to the Yugoslav dinar. On May 5, 1993, a denomination was made in the ratio of 1 new denar to 100 old ones. The name comes from the ancient Roman denarius. One denar is formally equal to 100 denis, but since 2013 denier coins have not been used as a means of payment. Currently, the only coins in use are: 1, 2, 5, 10 and 50 denars.
