The modern currency of South Korea is the South Korean won. There are coins in denominations of 1, 5, 10, 50, 100 and 500 won. Due to the rare occurrence of 1 and 5 won coins, calculations may be rounded to the nearest 10 won. Jubilee and commemorative coins were issued in both expensive and non-expensive metals. Mostly commemorative coins are dedicated to famous South Korean personalities, sports, memorable dates and events.
