Everyone knows that the modern Ukrainian hryvnia was founded back in the days of Kievan Rus - then it was a silver ingot, half of which was called a ruble or “ruble hryvnia”.
Under Prince Vladimir Svyatoslavovich, at the end of the 10th century, “zlatniks” and “srebreniks” appeared, on which a portrait of the prince and a trident coat of arms appeared. They began minting coins in Kievan Rus earlier than in some large European states, and the quality of coinage at that time was one of the best in Kievan Rus.
