The official currency of the Republic of Iraq is the Iraqi dinar. Formally equal to 1000 fils.
The first Iraqi coins in denominations of 1, 2, 4, 10, 20, 50 and 200 fils were introduced into circulation in 1931-1932. Coins in denominations of 20, 50 and 200 fils were minted from silver. In 1953, 100 fils coins were introduced into circulation, also minted in silver. After the establishment of the Iraqi Republic in 1959, coins came into circulation in denominations of 1, 5, 10, 25, 50 and 100 fils. In 1967, new coins began to be issued in denominations of 5, 10, 25, 50 and 100 fils. Since 1970, nickel coins have also been issued in denominations of 250 fils, and since 1971 - 500 fils. In addition, since 1980, nickel coins in denominations of 1 dinar have been introduced into circulation.
Since 1990, coins have ceased to be issued in Iraq due to the depreciation of the dinar.
In 2004, new coins of 25, 50 and 100 dinars were introduced. As of 2015, the coins were no longer in circulation.
