The national currency of the Republic of Honduras is the Honduran Lempira. 1 lempira is equal to 100 centavos. Coins in denominations of one lempira were minted from 1931 to 1937 from 900-carat silver. Since 1974, the 1 and 5 lempiras coins have been minted in steel clad with brass or copper. Currently in circulation are coins in denominations of 1, 2, 5, 10, 20, 50 centavos, 1 lempira.
