Germany and GDR
The Federal Republic of Germany existed from May 23, 1949 to October 3, 1990. During this period, the currency in use in the country was the German mark. 1 mark was equal to 100 pfenings. It was withdrawn from circulation after the transition to the euro in 2002. The following coins were in circulation: 1, 2, 5, 10, 20, 50 pfenings and 1, 2, 5 marks. They also issued commemorative and commemorative coins for collectors in denominations of 1, 2 and 5 marks.
The German Democratic Republic or East Germany existed between October 7, 1949 and October 3, 1990. During this period, the currency in use in the country was the GDR mark. 1 mark was equal to 100 pfenings. The following coins were in circulation: 1, 5, 10, 20, 50 pfenings and 1, 2, 5, 10, 20 marks. Since 1966, commemorative coins have been issued in denominations of 5, 10 and 20 marks. The first coins of 10 and 20 marks were issued on December 1, 1966, and 5 marks on December 16, 1968.
