Until 2012, Fiji's coins and banknotes featured a portrait of Queen Elizabeth II of Great Britain, despite the fact that Fiji has been a republic since 1987. Since 1969, coins have been issued in denominations of 1, 2, 5, 10, 20 cents, and since 1975 - 50 cents. In 1995, a $1 coin made of brass was introduced into circulation. 1 and 2 cent coins are no longer issued.
