The national currency of the Dominican Republic is the Dominican peso. One Dominican peso is equal to 100 centavos. In monetary circulation there are coins of 25, 10, 5, 1 pesos. Until 2000, coins of 50, 25, 10, 5 and 1 centavos were in circulation. In the Dominican Republic, money is still used as a weight when weighing. To avoid misunderstandings, on the 10 centavo coin, next to the denomination, “2 1/2” grams is indicated.
