Until 1974, the currency of the Kingdom of Bhutan was the Bhutanese rupee. Now the monetary unit is ngultrum (read as ngultram). The coins are called chetrumas. 1 ngultrum is equal to 100 fourtrums. In circulation there are coins in denominations of 20, 25, 50 chetrums and 1 ngultrum, rarely, but coins in denominations of 5 and 10 chetrums are also used.
