The monetary unit of the Kingdom of Burundi is the Burundian franc. 1 franc is equal to 100 centimes. In 1965, the Bank of the Kingdom of Burundi issued brass 1 franc coins. In 1968, the Bank of the Republic of Burundi took control of coinage and introduced aluminum one- and five-franc coins, as well as copper-nickel ten-franc coins.
