Byzantine coins are the gold, silver, and bronze coins of Byzantium that were issued before the fall of Constantinople in 1453 and are characterized by many features, ranging from several types to design and preservation features.
The Byzantine coin has undergone changes since the end of the 3rd century: the image of emperors, inscriptions, shape, and the like. Over the course of a millennium, great changes are noticeable in images (emperors begin to be depicted almost identically, symbols of the state appear on the other side of the coin;), inscriptions (Latin is gradually replaced by Greek). Coins such as miliarisius, hexagram, nummia, numi scufati (concave coin) appear.
