It is customary to talk about the coins of Ancient Rome by referring to the book “Coins of Rome” by Harold Mattingly. According to this book, coins began to be minted in Rome around 312 BC.
The first coins of Ancient Rome were bronze (from rough pieces of bronze to full-fledged bronze coins). Later, silver denarii also appeared in circulation.
