Icons, frames, icon cases
Icons are a phenomenon of Christian artistic culture; the earliest surviving icons date back to the 6th century. Setting for an icon (riza, shata, tsata) - decoration covering the icon board, made of gold, silver, brass, copper, decorated with enamel, stones, pearls or velvet. An icon case is a glazed shelf for icons; most often, wooden carved icon cases are used.
