Russian artist and theater decorator, representative of modernism. Lev Samoilovich Bakst studied at the St. Petersburg Academy of Arts, then in Paris, where he was influenced by the Impressionists. Along with A. Benois and S. Diaghilev, the artist initiated the creation of the World of Art association.
European success is associated with his activities as an artist (since 1909) and then artistic director (since 1911) of the Russian Seasons of S. P. Diaghilev. He was a trendsetter in European theatrical and decorative art. Was involved in book design.
