In 1857, Peru introduced lithographic postage stamps, which were provided by the Pacific Shipping Company and were used as provisional stamps. These original stamps included the letter abbreviations: “P. S.N.S.” "Pacific Steam Navigation Company" ("Pacific Shipping Company"). Most copies of postage stamps in circulation are counterfeit.
