Postage stamps have been issued in Germany since 1849. The development of German postage stamps took place in stages. These stages corresponded to the postal systems that were present in the territory of modern Germany, such as: before and after the first unification, during the period of the existence of two German states (West Germany and the GDR until 1990) and after the second unification.
