Great Britain
The history of Great Britain's postal service is remarkable in at least two respects: firstly, for the introduction of postage stamps in 1840 and, secondly, for the establishment of an efficient postal service throughout the British Empire, which underlies the postal system of many countries today. The UK was one of the founding countries of the Universal Postal Union in 1875.
