In Soviet times, Latvian collectors were united into branches of the All-Union Society of Philatelists - city and republican. Among the various events in which members of these branches participated and conducted, we can mention inter-republican exhibitions of young philatelists. They attracted young stamp lovers from Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia and Belarus. The first such gathering took place in 1972 in Tallinn, the second in 1973 in Riga, the third on June 13-29, 1975 in Kaunas. At the third inter-republican exhibition, one of the five gold medals was awarded to the collection prepared by the representative of Latvia: “Postage Stamps of the USSR” (P. Kaldver).
