The history of mail and postage stamps in Croatia is divided into periods corresponding to the postal systems of the states that included the territory of Croatia (Austria-Hungary, Yugoslavia), the period of the Independent State of Croatia (1941-1944) and modern Croatia (since 1991). On June 1, 1850, the first stamps came into circulation in Croatia - stamps of the Austrian Empire, which were in circulation until July 31, 1871. Since May 1, 1871, Hungarian stamps have been used. Calendar stamps in post offices were also of the Hungarian type.
