The history of mail and postage stamps of the United Arab Emirates covers the development of postal services in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), a state in the eastern part of the Arabian Peninsula with the capital of Abu Dhabi, which is a federation of seven principalities, or emirates: Abu Dhabi, Dubai,
Sharjah, Ajman, Umm Al Quwain, Ras Al Khaimah and Fujairah. Until 1971, these principalities existed under the name Treaty Oman (according to a peace treaty concluded in the 19th century between Great Britain and a number of Arab sheikhs), and each of the emirates issued postage stamps in its own name. Having become a single state, the UAE has been issuing its own postage stamps since 1973 and is a member of the Universal Postal Union.
