The postal and stamp history of Myanmar, formerly known as Burma, located in Southeast Asia, in the northern part of the Indochina Peninsula, is divided into the period of colonial dependence on Great Britain: initially as part of British India, then as a separate colony of Burma, and into the period independence: Union of Burma, Socialist Republic of the Union of Burma, Republic of the Union of Myanmar since 1990. Since 1949, Myanmar has been a member of the Universal Postal Union and issues its own postage stamps.
