The very first ceremonial issue of Micronesia stamps was a postal quart block with maps of Yap, Truk, Pohnpei and Kosrae - the archipelagos that make up the Federated States of Micronesia. All of them at one time belonged to the Caroline Islands. At the same time, a standard series was published with portraits of explorers and island views, the most striking of which is a landscape with the famous stone coins of Yap. At first, Micronesia followed a cautious policy of issuing postage stamps: the themes of most postage stamps were directly related to the islands and significant events in their history.
