The first attempt to organize a postal service in Fiji was made by a local newspaper, the Fiji Times Express. Then a nationwide post office appeared under the auspices of King Cakobau. His crowned monogram was placed on postage signs. When Fiji came under British rule, this monogram was replaced by Queen Victoria's monogram. However, Fiji subsequently began to use standard colonial templates.
