The Federation issued the first postage stamps in 1954. These were postal miniatures with a portrait of Queen Elizabeth II in three types of designs. On 1 July 1954, 15 stamps were issued in denominations ranging from half a penny to £1. On 15 February 1956 another 2½d stamp was issued for the new domestic mail postage rate.
