The history of mail and stamps in Ethiopia is divided into several periods: the ancient and pre-stamp periods, the organization of postal services (1893 - 1908), the formation of the postal service after the country joined the Universal Postal Union (1908 - 1919), the interwar period (1920 - 1935), the Italian occupation (1936 - 1938) and the presence of Ethiopia as part of Italian East Africa (1938 - 1941), the post-war period of the reign of Haile Selassie I until 1974, Socialist Ethiopia (1974 - 1991), the period of the transition of power to the Revolutionary Democratic Front of the Peoples of Ethiopia and education Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia after 1992.
