The postal and stamp history of Algeria, a state located in North Africa, relates mainly to the postal systems of the colonial era, when Algeria was under French colonial rule from 1830 and issued its own postage stamps from 1924, and the Algerian People's Democratic Republic after its independence in 1962. Algeria has been a member of the Universal Postal Union since 1907.
