Since 1966, the currency of the Commonwealth of Australia, including Christmas Island, Cocos Islands and Norfolk Island, and the independent Pacific states of Kiribati, Nauru and Tuvalu. Since 1988, banknotes have been produced using special thin plastic rather than paper. The Australian currency has many nuances in its development.
